Greetings!
I need some advice on which book(s) I should read for exam preparation.. Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated!
I consider myself with a pretty decent OO programming background (C++, from college, internship and spare-time projects). I have a limited exposure to Java in real life but I'm almost through with "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel (a fantastic book!). Right now I'm budgeting for only one exam-prep book and choosing between the following:
1. Java2 Exam Cram 2nd ed., Bill Brogden
2. Java2 Exam Prep 2nd ed., Bill Brogden
3. Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide, Heller and Roberts.
Particularly, could anyone enlighten me on the difference between Java Cram and Java Prep by Brogden? I couldn't make out much about it after reading some reviews.
Thanks again!

Hi Dave You can check out the certification books at the Bunkhouse. My humble personal recommendation is Mughal.

Thanks Anthony..
Yeah, I have followed the bunkhouse and amazon.com, and heard lots of good things about Mughal's book..
Thought now that I had finished 'Thinking in Java' I could brush up with a prep book real quick and do without Mughal's work. Guess I should be going with the RHE now .
Hope I'm making the right decision.

Hey Dave:
Did you come across with any book for 1.4 exam?
After reading Thinking in Java, I am reading Beginning Java 2 1.4 edition. I would say a very good book. But it is not focused on exam....

No Barkat. I haven't started on any prep books yet. But the RHE book has come out with a third edition, which is supposed to cover the latest 1.4 trend. You can read Amazon's review.
Should I get new edition?

Hi Dave:
That depends on which exam you want to take 1.4 or 1.2. I went through Amazon comments on RHE. Seems like a good choice. One draw back I found that (per a review) that the book has only two pages on collections. From the feedback from people who took 1.4 exam, the collection is heavey duty along with threads...
I have not made my decision. I am still finishing Horton's Java 2 1.4 edition.
Good luck.

I bought the RHE book first (becoz it offered tips for SCJD also) and while reading i was not comfortable. Then i came across a sample chapter from Moghul's book in PDF version. After reading that, I bought the Moghul book the very next day and havent opened RHE from then on.

Barkat, I do not know how much commission JR gets
but if you buy at Amazon through a link on the
"Bunkhouse" side, they should get something.
Same goes for Marcus Green's JCHQ.NET and others.

That's correct Barry. Barkat, if you go to JR's bunkhouse and click on Amazon links from there, JR gets a commission. Thanks
