Has the java communittee given up on Applets? They seem like such a good idea. I thought Sun was going to allow us to start cashing applets so we don't have to download them every time we visit a web site. Would this resolve the main objection to applets: they take too long to download over and over again? It's really fustrating that (1) none of the tutorials use AWT and the the 1.2 event model and (2) all the new tutorials use swing and (3) netscape does not support swing directly (without a bulky plug-in) for all OS and CPU vendors. I understand why IE does not enhance it's support for Java! It's too bad they seem to be winning the browser war. Or is the war over already?
