Would a future version of the Big Moose Saloon support avatars?

A. Very unprofessional. Ok, I know we have the Moose.
B. The site would slow down quite a bit loading an image for every user that had an avatar. We already disabled images in signatures
C. Something else for us volinteers to moderate (wouldn't want crude images)

Those were some great points (especially, the crude images; some people would post rude material)...

Sorry for the suggestion... I didn't perceive it to be that "unprofessional".

Don't be sorry, Avatars aren't wrong or evil, we just don't feel they fit into the friendly community feel we try to keep here at the Ranch. Suggestions are always welcome though!

(I'm also in the "Please no, no!" demographic)

There's a forum I've been part of for a long time, and in the beginning they used to have a pool of small avatars everyone could use. I always really enjoyed that.

I am very pleased with the professional and friendly feel of JavaRanch, but somehow I always miss that little bit of customization. I can see both sides of the discussion though.

The avatars were a polite 50x50 pixels. I always thought sprites would be amazing.

We have bumper stickers now. You can use that for customization.
