someone was unclear about the difference between rape and statutory rape. they are different in that rape involves violence and statutory rape does not. the punishment the courts hand out is different, however both get labled as sex offenders and their life gets ruined.
personally i fail to see a direct corellation between good == legal and evil == illegal. perhaps it is because i live in the US

Herb: Still, my greatest joy will be when it is evident Eugene has fled the field of battle running away like a little girl, or when he is reducded to unconsciousness under the weight of the steady barage of my logical blows.
Your logical blows are easily refuted, Herb, and I believe I've succeeded so far. It's unfortunate that your agenda appears to be not to discuss the problem in question, but to prove yourself. True, you masked it a little better than Joe, whose childish advances only weaken what otherwise might be a valid point of view, yet your cover is apparent even to someone who uses Joe's logic.
Up until now, I played your game, in the hope that we could move beyond it and have a meaningful discussion here, but since you chose to make your agenda public, the game itself is meaningless now. So, I throw the towel, you win.

Hey hey hey! (MOCK INDIGNATION!) Why are you bringing me into this? Herb's the one who says you run like a little girl! I just think you want to have sex with little girls!
Besides, we're all just vibrations on cosmic catgut anyway...

Joe, whose childish advances
And also - no offense Eugene but I'm really, really not making any advances on you (not that there's anything Wrong with that ). Map thinks you're really cute, though...

just some food for though about good and evil having nothing to do with laws. in the role-playing game dungeons and dragons (which some misinformed people say is evil itself). one of the things you have to determine is your characters alignment. the model for this is two axis. the good-neutral-evil axis and the lawful-neutral-chaotic axis. thus there are 9 alignments CG, CN, CE, NG, NN, NE, LG, LN, and LE. i even wrote an essay about it for my writing class last year. http://www.angelfire.com/games2/programming/AQuestionOfCharacter.htm

The area I live in, Toxteth Liverpool, is very working class(or non-working class), every offie has posters proclaiming the coming of pedophiles to the area. Not one child has been sexually assulted in the area, though many have been killed by speeding drivers and joy riders. The locals rally against these non-existent pedophiles, whilst burning out speed cameras and harbouring the local buissnessmen whom sell smack to their kids.
My point is that sometimes we look to others to blame instead of looking at ourselfs. Joe I think might be someone not willing to examine himself.

OH... MY... GOSH!!!
Heeeeeeee hee hee hee! You are kidding, right, Tony? Oh gosh. Tony, if you only knew how incredibly wrong that statement is. Unless you've done a fourth step, you're unlikely to know what my level of self-examination is (and no comments - this does not involve a mirror and mood lighting ).
Oh my.
Thank you for the laugh. (still chuckling)

Can I ask the moderators/sheriffs to please close this thread? The victory of the absolutists was absolute, and I see no point in in wasting their valuable time anymore. If it is in the rules or the traditions of MD to grant the option to close the thread to the thread starter, I'd like to exercise that option.
Thanks to everyone who participated.

WHOO HOO! We're number one! We're number one!
Oh wait. "The absolutists" was me. And I guess Herb at the end. I also got a couple of occasional positive comments from people like Michael, Jim and Map. But in general, "the absolutists" was me.
Okay.
WHOO HOO! I'm number one! I'm number one!

Hmmm - I told Eugene I'd close this for him if he posted some reason why (so I wouldn't have to). Of course I can't agree with Eugene's concession of victory - bologna! But I will note that this thread has sprawled in a bunch of different directions, as differerent people were interested in (or thought teir opponents were talking about) vastly different things, and it's difficult to follow each of the different subtopics here. So hopefully, Joe's new focused threads will do that better. Or - start your own new thread!. In any event I'm honoring Eugene's request, and closing this thread now. Cheers.
