What a question, Sandeep
It's Germany's 12th semi final at a World Cup. We won 7 of them in the past.
In the last 52 years only Italy has been able to stop us at this stage. Two times ('70 and '06).
And each time Germany was at a semi for the third time in a row they won the World Cup.
66, 70, 74*
82, 86, 90*
02, 06, 10*

Time to fly the flag

Chris,
Even though I support Holland but I know Germany has high chance of winning this world cup and they really deserve to win looking at how they played last two matches.

Isn't this the same thing? You remember Munchen 1974? Germany won from NL with 2-1 thanks to Gerd Muller. We want revenge!

Well Germany has Thomas Müller this time.
I hope Germany plays NL in the finals. It would be a real treat.

Actually I had thought Brasil would play Germany in the finals, Brasil to win.
The next two world cups would then be dominated by Germany, considering the youth and skill set the team has.
I was rooting for Brasil this time for sentimental reasons.

<tangent>
What's the connection between NL, Holland and Dutch?
I mean Germany->German.
Or is it like Hindustan, Bharat and Indian?

Actually, the official name of the country is The Netherlands (including The, yes). We have two provinces called (roughly translated) North Holland and South Holland. We were also known as (again roughly translated) the Kingdom of Hollands. I guess our country started in those two provinces, and the name stuck (since it's also so much shorter).

No idea about the Dutch. We translate the country and language to Nederland (no De here...) and Nederlands, so these match. I think the "Dutch" comes from "Diets" which is how our languages were called back in the days (until 1550 or so).

The words Diets, Dutch (in English), Duits (in Dutch) and Deutsch (in German) basically mean the same.
The word is much older than the nations in their todays border. It's how the speakers of the germanic languages called their own language.

Germany as a nation was founded very late (1871) and it was named after the language (Deutschland) its people where speaking.
The English didn't bother to wait so long had named us Germany and Germans before while the Dutch kept their name because their nation was formed earlier.

Sadly, I don't have one of those magical remotes that allows me to switch people's state of mind from "batshit insane" to "normal everyday run-of-the-mill dysfunctional".

Paul began to predict Germany's results during the euro 2008 tournament, correctly choosing the winner in four of Germany's six matches. He predicted Germany to win every match but was wrong when they lost to Croatia and in the final to Spain. So far at the 2010 World Cup, Paul has correctly predicted the winner of each of Germany's five matches.

Germany vs Argentina prediction:

Germany vs Argentina: "Paul kept staring at the German glass and only when we wanted to take out both glasses, he finally jumped inside the German one and gulped down the mussel," Munzig said. "All of his behavior indicates that Saturday's game will be very tough and it may even go into extra time and penalty shootout -- but in the end Germany will win."

So my initial prediction of Spain having a chance to win the world cup seems to be working out. They really played well against Germany today.

Agree, Spain played really well except two counter attacks where they had sure chance of scoring late in the match but they could not score. But Agree they played really well. They did not give Germany space to attack.

Congrats Spain!
They had the whole match under control. They didn't allow Germany anything. That's shows what a strong team they are. Why is their name La Furia Roja? El Autocontrol Rojo would be much more appropriate
I'm not sad because the German team has a bright future. That's for sure.

Now i go all for Holland because:
- that was my prediction here
- they beat Brasil
- the football they play is much more nicer to watch than Spain's
- from their historical record Holland is the greatest football nation that never won the title.
- they really really deserve it

I think that's exaggerated. Germany wasn't bad in holding against. Somehow it speaks for them that of all players Puyol made the goal. Just his third in over 80 matches for the national team. So "exotic" that nobody had him on the list.
All in all and trying to be objective this wasn't attractive football to watch. I hope Spain doen't become a second "Lawn Chess" team like Italy and returns to their Tikka Takka.

A bit disappointed after yesterday's match. Had expected it to be entertaining, especially from Germany. But it turned out to be laborious win for Spain. I hope the final on Sunday is better.

Laborious win... noo... Yesterday's was "the" quality football that one would have seen in the entire tournament so far. Spain demonstrated team work. Both Germany and Spain played very decently without even a single yellow card. The biggest mistake what England did during all their corner kicks turned out to be a goal for Germany. This was followed later on by Argentina, but Spain realized that and never attempted any corner kicks other than converting it to a short pass. Good work Spain!
