SUN is already introducing some Java 1.5 new features(like generics ). Do you think there will be any important change in the certification for this new version?.
(Will be J1.5 released soon?any timeline? Is the exam for 1.5 scheduled?)
Is it worth waiting and have a more up to date certification??

Howdy -
We're tied in pretty tightly with Sun's certification team. Kathy co-authored the 1.4 exam, and Kathy and I co-authored Sun's epractice exam for 1.4. We are looking into Sun's timing for 1.5 certification and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything definite.
That said however, knowing something about how the wheels turn at Sun, we would be totally shocked, stunned and otherwise befuddled if a 1.5 certification was available in less than A YEAR. (And if you want to take any bets, I'd personally bet it's at least 18 months away )
regards,
Bert

Howdy fellow ranchers,
I just got the official word on 1.5. Or rather, I got the word that there IS no official word on 1.5
It is NOT being planned at this time.
It will be at LEAST one year (almost certainly longer) before any new exam would be out for it. And... they might decide to skip 1.5 altogether (the way they skipped 1.3).
The decision will be based on whether the industry considers the changes to 1.5 to be significant enough to be part of the SCJP. This does *not* mean they're evaluating the importance of 1.5 changes, but rather if the changes are relevant to a programmer's certification.
And nobody has even begun to look at that. They're still finishing the 1.4 roll-out.
So I wouldn't be waiting for 1.5. I would guess you won't see a new exam for at LEAST 18 months.
Relax and take the 1.4 exam
And remember, the expiration is based on two years, not whether there's a new version. So if you took 1.4 and then a year later 1.5 came out, that still wouldn't make your 1.4 exam expire.
cheers,
Kathy
And did I mention there's a really fun new certification book, just for the 1.4 exam? There's never been a better time to start studying
