Hi ranchers,

I am planning to take the SCJP exam. I am a cs( kern Informatik )majored student studying for Diplom in Germany, have programmed in Java for more than 2 semesters -- but we use Java only as a tool to implement some data structures, algorithms and patterns, also for some numerical computing. That is to say, we dont emphasize too much on Java itself, same work can be also done with Pascal, Fortran, C, C++, or whatever else, the instructors intended. We are even forbidden to use some classes in java API for homework. So that actually I am not very familiar with Java features though I work with it all the time.
If with the book which has been recommended here, how long do you think I need to take to prepare for the SCJP exam? 2 or 3 weeks enough? And, anyone knows how does the exam office schedule the SCJP exam for an individual? Before Feb. 26th I am fully occupied with academic work, then will have time till Apr. 4th. I want to take the exam during my winter vacation at home in China. Is it possible to:
1. Well prepare for the exam in such a short time? Hard work and good book affordable.
2. Purchase the exam from the exam office in Shanghai and ask them whether they have an exam schedule during March. 5th to Apr. 4th?
Thank you very much!
Regards,
Ellen

Hi Ellen. Sounds interesting, studying in Germany, and going back to China for holidays.
I don't know whether you could prepare for the exam in three weeks. Maybe!
In Australia, Sylvan Prometric handle the payment and scheduling of an exam, and basically, once you pay them the $150 U.S., you can schedule it for whenever you like (within one year) - and I believe it is possible to re-schedule an arranged exam time, as long as you do so at least one day before the test.

I just checked the official SCJP site that the exam I am going to take is CX-310-035, but I cannot find the same exam number in neither Sun China SCJP2 site nor Sun Germany SCJP2 site, there are only 310-025 in both the two sites.
My questions:
1. Is SCJP2 1.4 exam already availabe outsite the States
2. In China the exam is in English, if I make it in Germany, is the exam in German or English? I prefer English because to me its faster to read and understand.
Regards,
Ellen

Hi Ellen,
the 1.4 exam is available outside the states. Just go to www.2test.com and register for the test. You can choose the country and the test center in which you'd like to test the test. Usually, the test are in English but it may depend on the country you are in.
I'm not sure you'll be able to get ready for the exam in 3 weeks, but what I do know is that you don't have one minute to loose. PLease find below some useful resources.
