can i increase the pen thickness with out using java 2D API
for drawing a line.

Well, not really... the functionality for drawing with different thicknesses is not built into the regular AWT API... the only way to fake it is to draw multiple copies of whatever you are drawing shifted one pixel away from the previous one.
