Bill's new book compared to 1.2?

Hi,
I have read the Exam Prep and Exam Cram books for the JDK 1.2 exam. I found them very good. The exam Prep book was designed to introduce people to concepts in Java - but it contained a lot of information useful to an experienced programmer. The chapter on Printing with Java I found especially interesting and useful - even though printing is not to be found anywhere on the exam.
The Exam Cram book was very useful. It focussed exclusively on the exam topics and was very well laid out. The questions at the end of each chapter (especially the ones marked as 'Trick Q') were very good at getting you to think the problem through - rather than just regurjitate what you had read. I decided to switch to the JDK 1.4 track rather than do the 1.2 exam I had been studying for. Then I found that I had to do strange things like work in order to get food and water, etc. So my study was put on hold. This may have been a good thing as this book is now out and I have the proper learning material.
Does the new Exam Cram book follow the same format as the 1.2 one did?
Apart from the material, are there any differences?
Is there an Exam Prep for the 1.4 exam?
I am delighted to hear that you have an electronic version of the book on CD - that was the one complaint I had of the old book.
Keep up the good work,

I'm delighted to hear you found the earlier books useful. In general the Exam Prep series was designed to be a more complete course-type book so we included material not on the exam.
The new book does indeed follow the previous style - the publisher figured "why change a winner" and the Exam Cram series has wide brand recognition.
Apart from the obvious content changes to meet the 1.4 objectives, the main difference is the inclusion of a CD with the electronic version of the text and a mock exam. We used content from the previous edition where it worked well but reorganized the chapters in the collections - exceptions - assertions area. Also a second sample test was added.
There won't be an Exam Prep because Que already has good books that have a similar style.
