Hi
I'm planning to take SCJP 1.4 exam at the end of this month so I want to know if JQplus mock exam deserve investing in 25$ and if I can rely only at this mock exam to pass the exam with high score 95% and above.
Thanks
Alexan

Hi Alexan
In my opinion, 95% is NOT an easy target. A lot depends on:
- how much Java exprience you have.
- how much time you really have to study (e.g. are you able to study 8 hours a day for the rest of the month?)
Less than a month would probably give you enough preparation time to pass, but you would really need a solid effort to get 95%
As for JQPlus. Have you tried out the trial version of their software. Its available at JQPlus V4 Trial. Judging from the trial version I think its pretty good mock exam software, and should give you a fair idea of where you stand. But do "try it before you buy it"!
Also check out jdiscuss.com, where people have compared their scores on mock exams (incl. JQPlus) with their score on the real exam.
There are quite a few decent free mock exams as well (check out the Javaranch FAQ), and I think the more you try to do, the more prepared you will be.
In addition, I highly recommend the "Java 2 Sun Certified Programmer & Developer Study Guide" by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. It focuses on exactly what you need to know for the exam, and its surprisingly easy to read (It won't put you to sleep like many other IT books). The authors also regularly contribute to this forum.
Which brings me to this forum. Use it if ever you have any questions or doubts. There will always be someone out there who will attempt to help you.
Finally, If I were you I would reconsider (if possible) taking this exam at the end of the month, so that you won't have to rush and get way stressed out to get adequetly prepared. But if its not possible to postpone, then get busy now! 95% may be difficult to achieve, but it is possible.
I hope this lengthy dose of info has helped (I'm sure you already knew a lot of this stuff anyway), and best of luck to you
Rory

Hi
Thank you Rory for this detailed explanation, So I want to tell you about my preparation program so if you have any comment I will be gratefull.
Firstly i began preparation from almost three weeks using "Complete java 2 Certification Study Guide 3rd Edition" By Philip Heller & Simon Roberts, And I reached to the last chapter "Java .lang and java.util packages" after which I will spend the remaining time doing mock exams.
Also i'am using various resources when I have difficulties in understanding some issues like
"Thinking in Java", "Java How to Program", JLS, and Sun tutorials.
Actually I tried JQplus trial version but I found the questions odd, I mean the method the questions are asked are tricky,I don't know if this is the case in the real exam. This is why I asked for help in assessment to know if this type of questions will help me or will confuse my knowledge.
What regard my experience really I do not have any experience with java but I have experience in C/C++ ( 5 years writing programs in C/Assembly for Microcontrollers "ATMEL 89C51, PIC16C84")
For now I'am studying full time and targeting SCJP - SCWCD - IBM XML 141
any comments and advices are welcomed.
Alexan

I do think the exam will have "tricky" questions, for axample in a particular question you might think you are dealing with operators when in fact there is a problem with access modifiers.
However I also think the exam setters have tried as hard as possible to remove any ambiguity from the questions and possible answers. So if you know your stuff and you have read the question carefully, you should be able to identify the correct answer when you see it.
Unfortunately some mock exams do contain ambiguously worded questions and possible answers, and I guess there are two thing you can do about this:
1. If you have any doubts about a question, post it on this forum and see what the rest of us think. You might even get a response from the person who set the ambiguously worded question.
2. If possible, contact the person responsible for the mock exam and query the question directly with them.
As for your preparation ? You're studying full time, which is good. But in the end, only you can decide if you're ready or not, and mock exams are good at helping you determine this.
More than that I cannot say
