Hi,
I am also studying for SCJP exam. I bought "A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification" by Khalid A. Mughal and Rolf W. Rasmussen. I've been using this book for a few weeks now and I love it. I have taken two Java courses at university this past year so I'm familiar with Java. If you have some experience with Java then I think this is the book for you. It's the top rated SCJP book on this site and the amazon ratings are really good too. Good luck

I have: The Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide
It covers the programmer and developer exam. I think I got a little ahead of myself, but figured it was a good value to have both. However, I haven't taken the exam yet, but the programmer aspect of this seems incredibly lite. The only way it will be useful is if the authors were extremely precise at what they put in their books and are exactly on target for what the exam expects of you. Or maybe they figure a 60% grade if you use only their book. I dunno, but I definately feel more comfortable with the material and resources from java ranch.
For example, from reading the book I wasn't able to answer the various Mock exam questions, like Dan's exams.
