Float.POSITIVE_INFINITY is 0x7f800000
Double.POSITIVE_INFINITY is 0x7ff0000000000000L
Then how come the above code prints true for a==b?

This is cz float gets implicitly promoted to double whenever we r equating them by == operator.

I doubt weather implicit conversion happens in comparison operators or not?
Do you mean when we compare 2 primitives first one of them is converted to widest type,& then comparison happens?

yes u r write. first of all implicit conversion takes place and then comparison
