Has anyone spent the $75 to get Sun's practice exam? If so, was it worth it? If not, is it just because of the money? Or are there some other reasons I'm missing?
My employer is paying for this for me, and while I don't want to waste the money if it's not worth it, I'm happy to get them to pay for it if it is.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Derek

Hi Derek. I bought the Sun ePractice exams two weeks ago.
There are 3 practice exams of 61 questions each. The questions of each exam are distributed evenly among the 9 objectives, with 1 or 2 questions for each sub-objective. This organization can help you to see how and what they intend to ask you about the objective.
If these practice exams are like the real thing, I have a better understanding of the scope of the exam, the kinds of questions that will be asked and the language used.
I have learned some common compiler errors and run time errors to expect and look for. I have seen all of these same errors on Dan's exams.
I feel comfortable manipulating the test machine efficiently. Sometimes there is too much code or the options are too long, so you have figure out the optimal position and size of the code exhibit window.
The questions seem easy. Based on peoples´┐Ż comments after taking the real exam, I am not willing to believe these questions represent the intellectual level of the real exam. The gc questions are not strange and the collections questions are not scenarios.
A lot of people do fine on the exam without spending $75 on these exams. I resisted and postponed buying these exams. But I have trouble taking tests under pressure and I seem to run out of time on the free mock exams, so I decided I needed some more practice. If you have taken some of the free mock exams, these will change you perspective on what to expect and what to study.
But $75? I am not so sure. I have a boatload of errata I might send to Sun after I take the real exam. Incorrect answers, ambiguous questions and incorrect explanations of the answers.
One answer says an ArrayList is NOT suitable for fast random access (Oh really!?) and the explanation is to use the RandomAccess class (yes, CLASS) instead (Oh really!?).

Thanks for the data. I was assuming that the question difficulty and format would be very similar to the actual exam. It would be interesting to hear from people who tried the practice exams and had taken the real exam.
