Recently I took an exam from Brainbench, this is because the employer that Im applying to required that. Although I passed the exam(Im not sure if I just passed only the mark line) I really felt strange of the questions because it's really far from those I encountered before. Or maybe I just got used in SJCP questions, reviewer and mock exams. Is it just ok to take Brainbench exam as a training tool? Thanks.
Hi, Nelson - I took the Brainbench Java 2 exam about a month prior to the SCJP. I passed, but I also noticed that the Brainbench exam is much different than the SCJP in that it's much broader. Where the SCJP covers just the J2SE, the Brainbench exam covered J2EE, such as JSP, EJB, etc. I scored high on all the J2SE topics, and low on the J2EE, which also corresponds to my experience. I also thought the Brainbench exam was much harder than Sun's. Overall, I'd say that the Brainbench exams are great for practice, especially to see where your overall Java knowledge is. Some employers, as you've found out, regard the Brainbench exams as more than mere practice.
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for one day. Teach a man to fish, he'll drink all your beer.
Cheers, Jeff (SCJP 1.4 all those years ago...)
Thanks Jeff. I didnt know that theyd include some j2ee questions. I didnt remember answering a question related to that throughout the 40 items. Maybe Im fortunate. Well at least I know that now. Will I able to see my exam's result even the one who arranged the exam is my employer-to-be? Thanks.
