Signed Applet in Netscape 6

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi,
my problem is to sign a java applet on netscape 6 broweser. I've read several documents that describe how to sign an applet with the jarsigner of java plugin. Unfortunatelly it requires a certificate bought by a certificate autority such as verisign or twate. I need instead to perform a way to certificate my applet for a developing scenario inside my intranet. Could anyone help me in creating a self-certificate applet? May I use a test certificate created with signtool to certify an applet on netscape 6?
Thank's in advance,
Gaetano Ruggiero
P.S. : does anyone know when the netscape 6.1 version will be officially released?

Hi,
I have searched a lot for the same problem. I have gone through a lot of pain to sign my applet.
Initially, I was unable to choose between alternative. u know, signing mechanisms differ from one browser to another.
I dont advise you to sign your applet for netscape -at all- as it needs u to use extra classes inside your original code even if u have a signing certificate.
at last, I have decided to sign my applet for Plugin 1.3. no change is needed inside code, and a testing certificate is sufficient within your intranet or during your testing phase.
just decide and tell, I will be in your help as much as possible.
Regards,
mac.

Thank's for your help,
but what i need is to know if i can sign my applet with a test certificate, I mean a certificate that i can create by my self without contacting any Certificate Authority, the same way you do with the signtool and -G option. No matter if I should authenticate applet with jarsigner or signtool, i just need a mechanism that allow me to build a jar file that contains my applet and signed for my test applications.
Thank's a lot for your contribution,
regards

Of course u can! thats what I have told u...
also, no need for a jar file, u just create ur testing certificate (using signtool) and config ur policy file to grant permission. using html converter will force ur applet to run from the JRE.
thats all!
mac.
