Hai guys....
I am planning to take the java certification. I wanted some help on the books I could refer. I have some experience in java and also taken some training, but this was long time ago and had no touch since then. Please advice me which books I can refer to, so that I can get my certification.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Java Ranch Sheetal.
The Java Ranch has a list of certification books at the Bunkhouse.

Sheetal,
One of the favorite study guides for less experienced programmers is the one by Kathy and Bert. I participated in the beta testing of the mock exams, and I can say that the mock exams are very similar to the real exam. I have not read the book, but it is said to provide a very complete description of Java fundamentals and tips on taking the exam. Although one of the alternative organizations of the exam sets on my web site is organized based on the chapter sequence of Khalid's book, I have not actually read it. Here at the ranch, I have read a lot of testimonials from those that say that it is very good. Readers seem to feel that Khalid's book is a little more rigorous than the others and serves as a very good reference book. The writing style of Kathy's book is described as more "festive".
A third option is the book by Bill Brogden and Marcus Green. I'm sure that that book is discussed more extensively at Marcus Green's site.

The book by Bill and I is physically small (easy to carry around) and only covers the Programmers exam (not the developer exam)....and cheaper than some of the competition (not that price should be your deciding factor but it does no harm)

Hai,
The book Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide (Exam 310-035 & 310-027) -- by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates, is it good to prepare for the Java 1.4 certification from this book... as it says Java 2 study Guide...I was just curious. Thanks in advance.

hi sheetal. that book is one of the best and highly appreciated. another one you may want to consider is "a programmer's guide to java certification 2nd edition by khalid mughal and rolf rasmussen".
