Hi,
I am using HttpURLConnection for applet servlet communication. But if I am giving the server's URL using its IP address or machine's name, it is throwing file not found exception. But it works perfectly alright if I give "localhost"
My machine name is suppose "dluckose". If I give the url as http://dluckose:8080/servlet/ChatServlet
it will throw file not found exception. If I give ip address also, the result is the same. But when I am giving http://localhost:8080/servlet/ChatServlet
it works fine..
Please give me a solution immediately.
Please help...

Probably your machine name (ducklose) isn't being resolved. In Unix, it's a simple matter - the hostname is set as part of almost every system install. In windows, the "machine name" that got set up may have been configured for Windows Networking but not TCP/IP - a distinction that's gotten pretty blurry as TCP/IP is supplanting NETBIOS. Check the machine's network configuration for TCP/IP and see if the host name is set to "ducklose".

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
