Hi all,
I am from Chennai,India.I know very well that this is NOT the forum for the above topic..But, I cannot help it..IGNORE this mail if you feel offended by this mail.
I had purchased a voucher( 310-035) some months back and registered for it at NIIT,Nungambakkam,Chennai. It expires in another 3 days(saturday, 31 July,2004).
I have been taking up mocks and have been scoring between 80-90 consistently. But, at this moment, I think I would not be able to take up the exam as I am supposed to leave for my client location(outstation) tomorrow morning.
The people at Prometric-NIIT say that they cannot help it.No point in asking them for a favor since, I think its a problem with me for not informing them earlier and SUNs voucher clearly says that it expires on that date.
Is there any option known to you to help me out.You may also reach me at: SajeethK@Yahoo.Com
Hoping against hope.
TIA,
Sajeeth.K

Contact Sun, they will probably send you a renewed voucher. They did it for me when I had not used the voucher by the expiration date.

It doesn't matter what continent you are on, Thompson Prometric is a pain, they're a monopoly and act like one. Their cancellation policies are draconian, and their web page is one of the worst I've seen in years. Sun should provide some competition in the cert testing field, such as running the tests themselves in locations where they have an office.

Good luck when you call Sun.

It's not up to Prometric, they didn't issue the vouchter, it was issued by Sun.

Why not register for the exam and then postpone it? You can normally push the limit that way.

Barry, can you explain more? What I've understood is, I go to the prometric testing centre, I register with them with my voucher, and then ask them to postpone the exam. Is my understanding correct?

I'm also sailing in a similar boat as Sujeeth is sailing.

Thanks and regards,
Kinjal Sonpal

More agony....Faxed and then rang up Sun Microsystems help desk at Bangalore,India quoting my Voucher number : SE-04ZJKLFE. Helpdesk expressed inability to do so.
I wonder whats preventing them from extending the date?? I am not for cancelling the voucher. If SUN can't, Prometric too cannot!!!
Am left wondering if it is ethical to sell my voucher to any other deserving person in Chennai.Regards,
Sajeeth.K

Sun has no legal obligation to extend your voucher, just as a supermarket has no legal obligation to replace a bottle of milk you buy if it goes past the sellby date after you walk out the store.

Prometric are contracted by Sun, they have no authority at all regarding the vouchers. If they accept one that's outdated they don't get paid (and likely you don't get your paperwork from Sun if you pass).

My voucher said that I had to register for the examination by the expiry date of the voucher. Then it was possible to cancel the examination (at least a couple of days before the registered date) and then re-register for a new date.

Take a look on www.prometric.com it explains how things are done.

Although Sun may not have any legal obligation to renew your voucher, they have nothing to gain by not doing so, and in terms of customer service they have something to loose (i.e. getting a reputation for pointless rules and paperwork.) The analogy with milk does not seem appropriate as milk really does become "invalid" after a set amount of time, whereas the validity of the voucher is fairly arbitrary.

I am not the only person who has had the voucher renewed, I have seen posts from other people in the past who have had this done for them. As Jeroen suggested, you should be dealing with Sun not Prometric. Contact them in writing and keep asking the question and escalating the issue.See if you can talk to the organ grinder rather than the monkey.

So what if SUN does not accept my point??? Have cancelled my assignment citing certification preps.I have decided to take the bull by its horns..Its "just" another exam. Am going to take up the exam this Saturday.
Two days is still LOT MORE TIME.Lets see how my earlier preparations going to help me out. This forum has been kind enuf to give greenhorns like me few valuable suggestions.
I have Sierra Bates and Dan Chisolm study guides at my side. And add Marcus Greens mocks to that.I shall come back again with my own sucess story!!!As most say,its attitude that matters.

I agree you should be talking to Sun about this, but more than half the problem is Prometric. I had more problems with them today. i wanted to schedule my SCJP test as a same day test today. Their web site doesn't support that, so I called their phone number and scheduled it with them. they scheduled it in a different test centre than the one I requested. When I got there we realized that it was wrong, so I called the test centre it was registered with, they had no record of my registration. Luckily they were more professional than Prometric and a 10 minute subway ride away. An hour later, very flustered, I wrote the test, lost a few points, but got 90%, so its not that bad. I hope the OP gets his problems straightened out.
PKW.

It's just a formatting issue then. If K is the initial of your first name and Sajeeth is your family name, then please just change your displayed name to K. Sajeeth.
Thanks
