Hi there
I am thinking of doing this ceritfication from a career/job point of view
how mcuh time do i have for preparing for SJCP1.4 ???

It depends on how much Java knowledge you previously have. Usually, taking 1 to 2 months with 4 hours each day would be enough.

Look at it this way:

Experienced Java programmers have failed SCJP after studying for one week.
Guys who have never programmed have passed SCJP with 95% or more after studying for 6 months or more.

There are othr combinations of course.
