According to the website, http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-035.xml , one must have 6-12 months of Java programming experience before taking the certification test. Is this correct? I was just making sure that this is correct.

It is just a suggestion. They don't look at your resume.

But it is a reasonable minumum you should have to have the required level of expertise.
Of course it's sadly possible to pass the exam without ever having written a line of Java if you're good enough at cramming...
