Hi,

While reading the session & cookie object, I just happened to check the javaranch cookie stored in my system. Cookie contains my user id and password??? and the user name. Is it a good idea to display the password in the cookie even for technical forums like java ranch.

A good point. While javaranch isn't really meant to be a high security website, would it be a hassle to have some kind of simple encryption in the cookies?

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately the current forum software we use (UBB) is not software we wrote, so we don't really have the ability to change this. See the JavaRanch FAQ for information on why we don't yet have our own software.

There are a number of things we don't like with the way the current cookies work (such as the "last viewed thread" being lost when you change browsers / computers). Most of these issues have already been resolved in the new software.

Regards, Andrew

Try 100 things. 2 will work out, but you will never know in advance which 2. This tiny ad might be one:
Java file APIs (DOC, XLS, PDF, and many more)
