usage of tostring method

what actually is the functionality of "tostring()" method and what its usage in the program?

toString is to provide a human readable representation of an object. It should not be used to gain access to data contained in the object (by parsing the String). It is sometimes used to display data to a user by placing the object into a drop down list or table cell. Although I suppose it would be 'better' to provide custom cell renderers for the table.
