Does this mean taking SCJP 1.2/1.4 is a bad move?

It depends on what you want, if you only need it as a prerequisite to the other exams, you could as well take the old exams if you prepared them.

Is there any chance that Sun will no longer offer the SCJP 1.2 and/or SCJP 1.4 within the next couple of months?
Is there anywhere on the web showing Sun's policy on this?

It seams that the java.io package is back.
I don't find the update exam (from 1.4 to 1.5.

SCJP, SCJD, SCWCD, OCPJBCD

I dont think so, as SCJP 1.4 had been out for 2 years, but SCJP 1.2 is still available.

No, there is no black and white on this issue.
