I'm so glad I checked the message board today. I placed my order on Monday, May 23, for my SCJP 1.4 exam, to be taken on Friday, and I didn't see any promotion for the 25% discount, so I signed up to pay full price. Now I'll try to see if I can redo the order, this time with the discount. I just emailed Sun about it. Thanks for letting us know, Anupam.

In addition to 25% discount on certification courses, SUn is also providing free web-based J2SE 5.0 overview.

Can this discount be combined with the 75% off discount offered for those who took the SCJP 5.0 beta exam?

75% off and 25% off = 81.25% off (it cound be 75% off + 25% off = 100% off )

I emailed registrars@sun.com with the question:

If I buy exam vouchers before June 30, 2005, with the 25% discount mentioned on http://www.sun.com/training/savings/java_10.xml
how soon must I take the exams? Can I save the voucher for later in the year, or must I take the exams before June 30?

They replied:

Hi,

Thank you for choosing Sun Educational Services for your training needs. This is in response to the question you posted below via the website and/or registrars@sun.com.

To qualify for the discount offer, purchase must be made between May 23, 2005 and June 30 2005.

Once exam vouchers are purchased you have up to one year from the date of purchase to use it. Each voucher is valid for one exam and may only be used at an Authorized Prometric Testing Center in the country for which it was purchased. Please be aware that exam vouchers are nonrefundable for any reason.

Should you require additional information, please contact us by email at Registrars@Sun.com or by phone at 1-800-422-8020 and an Education Specialist will be able to assist you.

Thank you,
Tommy Rivera

thats cool ..but how can we sure that i will get discount on purchase of voucher through online.... chitra Ap didn't get the discount

its v.strange....and bit of hasitation while making transation online
till ranchers give thier report of successfull transation...

i think we will also get the discount if we purchase the voucher from any prometric center......then i can give them cash on discounted money.. that will be safer transation i think

***********************************
Anyway... Ranchers just do acknowledge of your online successfull transation so other ranchers will be fearless make online transaction or else contact their nearer prometric center...

Answer from Sun:

the discount is taken on the back end by us, as the web site is not able
to apply the discount. So, before you are charged for the exam, by our
billing department, the 25% discount will be applied.

After we pay fees online, they will mail us the voucher, and then we can use it when we go to a testing centre to take the exam, is this the process of taking the certification exams?

Thanks.

Hi all,

I live in Australia and am currently preparing for SCBCD exam. After reading this post I called up my local Sun Representative centre to buy the SCBCD voucher and I asked for the 25% discount to which they happily agreed. Now after two days they email me back stating that the discount is not applicable to Australia and probably would be only restricted to US. I found this very strange and unprofessional. As no where on the Sun Website it mentions that these conditions/discounts only apply to US customers.

Can somebody confirm if that's true and if not what am I supposed to do to get the 25% discount.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Hiten.

Hi Hiten

Check the link on the first page. It says the offer is valid worldwide. I think you might have to make and e-purchase for the discount. Try waiting a few days and see if anyone in Australia get the discount or not. Or your best bet would be deal online and try your luck.

Best of luck.

Hi Hiten,

I am from Macedonia and today I asked Sun about the 25% local discount. They said sure no problem, but we'll see how it goes. If it says that the offer is available worldwide, it should mean that.

Maybe you should contact a different Sun official...

All the best,
Ice

I've yet to get a discount from a US based company on anything...
Sometimes local offices run their own independent discount programs but I've never seen them honour US programs.

This isn't limited to Sun, it applies to everything.

Pls. can anyone tell me where(i.e. on which screen/page in Sun`s site) have I to enter the promotion code?Because on the sun`s site after adding the exam voucher to my shopping cart, on Order Preview screen, I see no such field asking for the promotion code, I see something called as "Priority Code", is it the same as "Prmotion Code"?
Thanks,
Shetal

I inquired from Prometric centers here in India, and they told me the 25% discount on vouchers is valid only if we give exam before 30th June 2005 (yes, within the next 15 days). But looking at the messages here, I get the picture that it's valid till next year June. Will someone from Sun please confirm?

Hi Lokesh,

25% discount on vouchers are available till June 30, 2005. That means you have to purchase the voucher before June 30, 2005. After that 25% discount is not available.

And Voucher is valid for 1 year i.e. June 30, 2006.

Hope this clear your doubt.

Thanks Shalini for the confirmation. I was under the same impression, but when i called a prometric center here, I got this news, so I mentioned. Anyway, that must be a misunderstanding from their side..L.

Even, I had the same problem. not showing the discount amount in the checkout cart. When I contacted Sun about this, this is the reply that I received.

As long as you provide the Priority Code at the time of registration and
meet the terms and conditions of the promotion (Purchasing Java Exam
Voucher, etc), you will receive the discount. Please note that the
discount will not appear in your shopping cart or web order summary, but
will be applied upon post-processing of your order.

When I registered for SCJP (last week) I was not aware of the discount code. Now when I contacted them at registrars@sun.com I got the standard response that discount code can be used only at the time of registration. Furthermore, my orderis non-refundable and so I cannot simply cancel and place another order.

I think it is grossly unfair that if everyone is eligible for a discount, one should even have to enter the "discount code". Even otherwise, why couldnt Sun (or Sun Educational Services) display the discount code prominently at the time of registration? It seems to me that this is only an advertising ploy by Sun - they do not wish to really give the discount to all eligible.

I apologize if this is deemed an inappropriate post: I do not wish to post a rant on this message board, but I wish to encourage everyone who is in a similar situation to register a protest about the discount code process with Sun at registrars@sun.com, who2contact@central.sun.com

~ amol

I would say, this is a normal practice. Consider your case in this way, you purchase a voucher 11 months ago (1 year to be expired). Now, you see this promotion and then you tell SUN that you purchased a voucher, and you guess you should refund it due to the discount. So, should SUN accept this case?

If so, it would be unfair to people that with the same situation but took the exam. If not, how long the period should be fair enough? 1 day before, 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months? Hence, each discount should be regonized before registration.

Nice point, except that I did purchase the voucher in the said period - I purchased the voucher on June 7th which is within the period the discount was offered.
