can someone shed light when form feed is used?

Form feed was used in the days of the matrix printers. When you sent this character to the printer, it caused the printer to advance to the top of the next page.

I remember also using it in some primitive versions of BASIC for the PC back in the 1980s. It was an other way to clear the contents of the computer screen.

I've never used the form feed character in my nine years of Java programming experience.
