I am also from India, and planning to take the test, though not now, I want to have the updated information. Is it really a good time to purchase a SCJP book now as the certification might be upgraded to SCJP1.5, and we dont have any for 1.5.

Chintan, all the people I have asked for their recommended SCJP book, it is unanimous answer "Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide" by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. You can definetely go for it if you are planning to write now.
