It's well past time to promote these three gentlemen to "sheriff":

Lasse Koskela

Mark Spritzler

and

Ilja Preuss

These guys have all been extremely helpful, and not just to me, but to everybody here! They've also gone well beyond the call of duty to demonstrate "be nice" even with others were having a bit of trouble with it. If they have the keys to everything here, JavaRanch can only be a better place.

Map, could you please update the contact page to show the new status for these guys?

Jim, could you add them to the sheriffs only mailing list?

Lasse, the first thing I want you to do as sheriff is to teach us how to pronounce your name. I keep thinking "Lassie" (either a dog or a young woman from Scotland) and that seems rude.

I am proud to be the first to offer you three congratulations! Well-deserved in each case. Come 'round sometime and I'll teach you the secret handshake!

Now, tell me this: why are we so worried about pronouncing Lasse's first name when we don't seem to have the right letters around to even spell Ilja's last name?

Hearty congratulations, you three. Welcome!

[PW]: Jim, could you add them to the sheriffs only mailing list?

Done.

[EFH]: Now, tell me this: why are we so worried about pronouncing Lasse's first name when we don't seem to have the right letters around to even spell Ilja's last name?

Why, what's so hard about Preuß?

Thanks, guys.

Regarding my name, I've been meaning to record myself spelling my name for a while already -- I'll post the audio file online when I actually get it done

If you want to know how *my* name is pronounced, you just need to get a copy of "JUnit Recipes"...

It's done. Forgive me that bad quality -- anyone have a suggestion for a good, free audio recorder software for Windows?

Waaaaah! Beautiful impressive mid-range! Lasse do you sing? If not, it's a waste! I guess the software doesn't count that much for a home recording, upgrade your microphone. For human's voice, AKG made in 1960s rocks! My sound card is Creative Audigy 2 ZS, it comes with a bunch of excellent software. The Creative E-MU 0404 is already under $100 too, grab it if you sing.

Yeah. I realized how stupid that was after clicking "add reply" -- I did the recording using the laptop's built-in microphone...

Anyway, thanks for the kind words regarding my voice, regardless of the audio quality. I don't sing, really, although you're not the first one to say I should. I would sing in the bathtub but I live in an apartment building and the neighbours would probably come through the roof if I'd do that

Congrate guys.

Especially for making the ranch more vibrant and stick to its roots.

(on a side note I hope this gives inspiration to some other frequent participents to contribute more on technical side than to 'Meaningless Drivel' forum )

Congratulations all. well deserved.

I'd love to listen to the sound file but I am currently surrounded by strangers who might get the wrong idea. But I'd guess it sounds like lasso but with a drawn out "ah" and ending with a short "eh". Will be obliged if anyone can confirm this !

Thanks everyone.

Lasse, Your recording reminds me of those voice messages where they speak slowly until they give out their phone number, then they rattle off the phone number at top speed.

So my interpretation was the "e" in Lasse is silent, and the last name has all the letters pronounced. Did you say the "a" in Koskela?

No one pronounces Map's name the correct way at the ranch.
Mar-gar-ree-tah. I was reminded of this reading through HFDP.

Don't I know exactly what you're talking about. I just yesterday had to call my voicemail three times in a row just to get that one international number written down

Actually the "e" shouldn't be silent and yes, I did say the "a" in Koskela as well. No silent characters in Finnish...

So then the e, is that pronounced "ie" or like the "a" sound that Fonzie makes?
