Hello,
I am willing to do Java Certification course. Can anyone please give me the procedure to take up this exam?
Steps to prepare for the exam? I searched in www.sun.com website, but, i couldn't get much information.

Is work experience is required to take-up this exam? I have 1-year experience
in JSP and JavaScript. Is that sufficient?

Any guidelines will be helpful

Hi
U don't need any practical experience. To be an SCJP, u must be knowing core java concepts very well. The syllabus of SCJP doesn't include JSP or Javascript (It never happens bcoz Javascript is not a Sun product).
The SCWCD exam is for J2EE - so it includes JSP. (u should be an SCJP to write the SCWCD exam)
For SCJP 1.4 exam, there are 9 cool chapters in the syllabus.

(i told "9 cool chapters" bcoz i studied the K&B book)

U can prepare SCJP in 6 weeks - first 2 weeks for studying basic java book, next 3 weeks for studying certification book and last 1 week for revision & mock exams. (sounds simple or not ?)

Having SCJP certification is a plus point for anyone hunting for jobs (especially in india). U will receive a sun logo indicating that u r an SCJP (ofcourse after passing the exam) and u can have that logo printed at the top ur resume - that will definitely attract the recruiters.

For preparation, u definitely need the so called "K&B book" - K for Kathy Sierra & B for Bert Bates. There are many certification books available for the SCJP 1.4 exam in the market. There has never been an argument like "Which is the best book ?". But there might be an argument like "Which is the second best book ?". Bcoz everybody (even a newly born baby) knows K&B book is the best for SCJP.

I finished SCJP last month and got 86% marks (truly bcoz of the K&B book). I just prepared for 1 month for the exam bcoz i planned to have the exam quick. If i had prepared for more days, i would have probably got 100% marks (thats the greatness of the K&B book).

With SCJP, getting marks is not so important (ur mark is not shown in the certificate) - its a matter of how much u learn and gain knowledge from it.

Your writing is good...

It could be much better if he took the extra effort to write out words such as "you", "are", "your", "because", etc.
