Hi Yakki,

Doing SCJP will definately provide you a value add but to get a job you have to pursue your masters degree. So I will suggest you to first do MCA then in the meantime clear SCJP.

Having an SCJP will help to increase your credibility only in position where there is a tussle between a certified professional and one who is not certified. From your post I believe u are studying in India, correct me if i am wrong.Let me tell u something.SCJP is NOT a replacement of MCA/BE. If a company has a recruitment criteria stating MCA/BE as minimum requirement for posting cvs. Then Having SCJP + Bsc(IT) will not help. And if u are a fresher, then it is better to have good academic qualifications than SCJP.Of course the last one is my personal opinion. But Trust me.I am a Bsc(IT) graduate who passed at 2003.Now i have completed my MCA, of course. That said preparing for SCJP will always increase your understanding of Java and having a cert which is not a cake walk is always handy. It speaks of your ability.

Go for an MCA if you can. After your MCA when you are in final sem or somewhere around that give ur scjp. There will be 2 new versions of java by then and its better you have a current certification when you start looking for jobs.

It's a Master Program in Computer Applications. Sort of equivalent to MS in Computer Science. India has these different names for degrees.
