Question on Arrays

Hi,

I have a confusion over the following classes. Please clarify my doubt

public class Compare {
int i[] = {0};
public static void main(String args[]) {
int i[] = {1};
change_i(i);
System.out.println(i[0]);
}
public static void change_i(int i[]) {
i[0] = 2;
i[0] *= 2;
}
}

ANS: 4

Answer is expected being reference is getting ponted in the method. Actual value is changing and Answer is 4.

But in the following Answer is 1. Here also refernce is getting pointed.
Why the answer is 1?.

public class Compare {
int i[] = {0};
public static void main(String args[]) {
int i[] = {1};
change_i(i);
System.out.println(i[0]);
}
public static void change_i(int i[]) {
int j[] = {2};
i = j;
}
}

Hi Ramesh

  public static void change_i(int i[]) {
i[0] = 2;
i[0] *= 2;
}
}

Here i[0] points to array declared in main, there for it prints 4.
Whereas in below method we are changing the reference of i to point j[]. In this case any change, there is no affect on value of array declared in main.

public static void change_i(int i[]) {
int j[] = {2};
i = j;
}
}
