 if (false)
  {int i=0;//compile well}

also

    
  loop:
   {
     break loop;
     int i=0;//unreachable code
   }
 
   loop:

    if(true) break loop;
     int i=0;//compile well,although was unreachable
   }

This is a link to what the Java Language Specification says about unreachable statements. This is the second edition so it doesn't mention generics or other things that were added in Tiger.
