reading client-side file from applet

hi everyone,
is there any way in which i can get a listing of all files on the client machine, then select a particular file, and display the contects of this file - all in my applet.
please help me out in this....

Hi,
By default an applet cannot read files on the client machine.
Trusted applets, however, can do that. In order for an applet to be considered trusted by the client, the applet class either has to be included in the classpath of the jre running the applet (a bit difficult if you don't have the class file on your local machine), or you can sign the applet.
