Hi All,
I am trying to use the topcoder competetion applet ( www.topcoder.com). I am behind a fire wall. The applet starts, but when i type in my user name and password, and click on submit, the applet shows the error :
FAILED TO ESTABLISH A CONNECTION TO THE SOCKET SERVER

I understand that this is because i am behind the fire wall. Even checking on the applet's httpTunneling option does not help.
Can any one suggest some pointers.
NB: The topcoder applet is available for download from www.topcoder.com
Thanks

I wanted to post a new msg but on searching came up with this post (which is more than 2 years old with no replies) ....so I decided to use this only.

Guys my issue is the same as this one....ie running topcoder applet.

Someone suggested using a seperate tunnelling application, but I am not sure why that would work - bcos topcoder applet itself is providing tunnelling support!!!?

Please confirm my observations and provide guidance how i can run the arena applet to participate in topcoder competitions...

Please also mail replies to my id - its.amitmathur@gmail.com.

Thanks so much.

Have you posted to the Round Tables at TopCoder? The members there are usually quite friendly in helping others troubleshoot these kinds of problems. You may also want to email TopCoder directly. I think you can send an email to service@topcoder.com to get help, but you should check their contacts page to make sure.

yeah thanks...posted at topcoder and the discussion there is continuing...

But would like to know one thing - to use http tunnelling the server at the other end must also be able to handle tunnelled requests...right? (And tunnelled request I would presume would be normal http requests)
But then what is the use of third party tunnelling applications here - if the request we are sending is in http only? ( I am sorry if you feel I dont know much about tunnelling.....i am still studying that).
