Hi all,

I have years of experience in non java technology but yes ... I have studied java and in fact, had been prepararing for Java Certification but then due to other commitments I missed it altogether. Now I think the time is right and I am back with determination to achieve my goal.

I have downloaded the java_ee_sdk-5-windows.exe from sun website and managed to set the bin and classpath. What really struck me is that how far this SDK has come from what I used during Java 1.2 preparation!!!

Request you to kindly guide me on books that may help me in preparing for SCJP 5 examination. I came across following names in previous threads -

1. SCJP 5.0 BY Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates (One of the Most famous book)
2. SCJP by Simon Robert.
3. SCJP by Khalid Mughal.

Of these three, which one should I go for? I have heard a lot about Khalid Mughal but Kathy & Bert and Simon Robert are new to me. Please direct me to the right book (considering that I am not new to java) for SCJP 5 exam.

Also, it would be great if you could throw some light on the exam format itself. Are all questions mutliple choice? I heard that now they have introduced some explainatory type questions in SCJP 5. Is this true? How many questions are there in SCJP and what is the duration of exam? What should be my approach (preparation wise) to the exam?

Please bear with me as I have put down a lot of questions and I know some of them can be answered at sun website but still it would be great if you could entertain them so that I may take a print of this thread for my future reference.

Thanks in advance ....

Regards

Um... java_ee_sdk-5-windows.exe? You need only the 5.0 jdk and documentation - not the Enterprise Edition used for J2EE development.
