Does Javaranch utilize a recompute method that is run once a day and recalculates a users total message post count? For example, an earlier thread from today shows that my post count is 931, while my latest thread shows that my total post count is 937.

Just curious,

UBB (the software that runs this site) uses an elaborate caching mechanism to avoid recomputing pages. Any given page is updated only when a post is added to, deleted from, or edited on that page. So you post on Tuesday, and your post count is 100, and then on Saturday your count is 150, that other thread will still show 100 unless something happens to it to force the page to be regenerated. You can see the same effect with display names -- changing your display name won't automatically erase the old name everywhere from the site; your old threads will show your old name unless somebody replies to them again.
