change color of loading rectangle

the rectangle the applet is loading in (in browsers shortly before applet is running) is usually gray with black info-text.
is there a way to change these colors (in html or java, doesnt matter how) or is this java-standard and not touchable?

Well, yes there is a way, but at the moment it doesn't always work in Internet Explorer. But you can experiment and see what works and doesn't and maybe come up with a decent compromise. There's some good info on how do to this here.
