Hi,

If this has been asked before - please refer me to URL (I did a search and couldn't quite find it). Ok - so my situation is that I've been developing in 1.4 for a while and I love HFJ (1st and 2nd edition). I haven't done much with 1.5 new features. I've looked at certification faq and such and it seems sun will get rid of SCJP 1.2 test sometime in 2006/2007. What I'm wondering - is which book to study and for which SCJP? (I'm thinking 1.5).

"Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide (Exam 310-035 & 310-027) (Paperback) "
or
"SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide (Exam 310-055) (Certification Press Study Guides) (Paperback) "

Would the 310-055 guide also cover some developer exam info?

El

The second of the two books is for SCJP 5.0 (1.5) - obsolete SCJP 1.4 stuff has been removed and the new Java 5.0 features added.
The first book gives details and hints about SCJD in the latter chapters. In the second book the same SCJD material is on the CDrom the chapters being removed from the paper book.

Hi Eliot.

"Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide (Exam 310-035 & 310-027) (Paperback) " is for SCJP 1.4 and SCJD 1.4

"SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide (Exam 310-055)" is for SCJP 5.0. I bought this book for SCJP 5 preparation and if you study it very well, you can pass the exam with a good score.
In the cd included you'll find some useful chapters for preparing SCJD.

A good choice for SCJD 1.5 preparation is "SCJD Exam with J2SE 5" by Adnrew Monkhouse & Terry Camerlengo.

If I were you, I would go for the SCJP 5.0. It's a very tough exam, but J2SE 5 is full of exiting news and passing the exam will give you a great satisfaction for several months

Best regards and good luck for your study.

Barry.

Thank you Barry^2 for the feedback. It sounds like SCJP 5 is the way to go, and the CD having SCJD is good to know (I couldn't tell this from Amazon listing).

Thanks!
