Hi All,

I'm preparing for the Java 5 programmer certification test and i had a few questions.
Firtly I was thinking of writting a few programs..is it preferrable to use NetBeans over Eclipse or does it not matter with regard to the test.
Seondly If i'm completely new to java and have some basic programming experience in C and C++ how long do you think will it take me to get prepared for this test.
any help and advice appreciated.

thanks

It does not matter with regard to the test.

It depends on yourself. Hard to say but it will be not hard since you have experience in C++.

It may matter in that I have had several emails from people who suggested that some of my mock exam questions generated errors. It turned out that Errors were generated under eclipse but not the bare JDK. On balance I recommend using the bare JDK to ensure exact compatability.

Yes that's true. And under some circumstances eclipse makes strange optimization and code, which will generate error using Sun JDK, does not do this in eclipse.

I recommend to just use JDK and notepad in Windows, or JDK and vi in Linux.
Abandon those IDEs.
