Hello everyone.
I have an application that reads data from a HTTP server ( reads XML ) and prints automatically as it gets more data. It polls for new data each 30 secs.
This application has a very simple GUI , it has a login/password fields a start/stop button aaaaandd... ... that's all.
Now I have to integrate this printing application to a major one, this is a web application made with some servlet framework, it has it's own login page etc.
I'm thinking to put an href to a page where the applet appears and as the webapp has the authentication mechanism my appler will have now only the start/stop button
Now my question is:

Is it possible that a thread or the applet keep running in the background so it keeps reading information from the HTTP server, when the usera leave the print applet page ?
I was considering open a new web page , but I don't want to have this new page beside the main browser, otherwise I would reather keep using original standalone app.
Thanks in advance.
