Are there any big differences regarding the behaviour between applets running in a PC with JRE 1.3.1_09 and a PC with JRE 1.3.1_07 ?

I am having a weird behaviour.
I get a BASIC authentication pop-up window each time I launch the applet when the JRE version is 1.3.1_07, which is not expected, but everything goes well when the JRE version is 1.3.1_09 (no pop-up) ...

Any explanation, or idea regarding this problem will be greatly appreciated.
By the way, the applet is SIGNED.
But whether I use a .java.policy or not, the behaviour is the same.
