Ascii '1' is 0x31 hex. and its binary represent can be 00000000 00000000 00000000 00110001 (if it is for 32 bits).
the result is 00000000 00000000 00000000 00011000 after ">>1" which is
24 (or 0x18 hex).

How do the '>>', '>>>', and '<<' operators work?

It's important to note that '1' (inside single quotes) is not an int value of 1. It is a char representation of that numeral.

I didn't know that we are expected to know the ascii and hex values of the digits 1-10 for the exam.
