I have used Ampersandscroll.class to create a slow scrolling image & text banners on one of my websites. This works on multiple PC's with IE 5.5 or 6.x just fine UNLESS they have Sun Java loaded. With Sun Java, the banner area shows that the background image has loaded, but no movement. I even observe an 'applet init' message on the bottom of IE.

I have already recompiled the Ampersandscroll.class file (with GoJava) and observed no change. I have also attempted to search for an HTMLconverter on java.sun.com, but found none. I also observer that the class file caches into Sun's cache folder w/o a problem.

Why would my script run on a PC w/o Sun OK, but not with Sun? I am willing to try just about anything at this point, even a new scroller!

Given that the applet's copyright is 1997 and the author's website is no longer functional, I'm not surprised that the applet hasn't faired well with newer versions of Java. I found a newer version (circa 2000) that works fine with the Java 1.4 plug-in.

I have spent some time today to find that placing the background scrolling image into the same directory as the Java .class file made my problem go away. I have no idea why...
