I have an applet that uses a tcp/ip connection. The connection is held by a static member variable in the applet class, in another class or in another abstract class (I tried all three methods). All works fine until the is refreshed or the page is submitted causing an applet reload. After that, the applet can still access the connection and send. However, the server no longer sends events over the connection to the applet or really to the object that was held in static memory.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? What is happening when the browser refreshes? I am using IE and tried the java and MS jvms'.

All help appreciated.javascript: x()

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
