The Java Applet I've written is working perfectly, but it does not display within the browser, instead a black box displays in the browser and pops-up a Java Applet Window.
is this because I'm using JApplet and a Java3D canvas3d for display?

Judging from your previous post, I'd say you still have code in your "applet" which creates and displays a frame. Do you have "JFrame" or ".show()" or ".setVisible(true)" anywhere? No reason to have those in an applet unless you want an independent frame popping up.
