I have a signed applet that creates some temp files while performing its tasks.

I have two questions.

1.Where is the best location to store temp files that are created by the applet?
2. Can the applet find out where to store temp files via the System.getProperty. The applet is required to run on linux, windows and all browsers.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you
David

The File class has the functionality you are looking for:

public static File createTempFile(String prefix, String suffix) throws IOException

Creates an empty file in the default temporary-file directory, using the given prefix and suffix to generate its name. Invoking this method is equivalent to invoking createTempFile(prefix, suffix, null).

java.lang.File
