applet security issue

my applet works fine if i try to access files in the same directory in which the applet is present but it doesnt work fine for other directories.

moreover i dont find properties file in home/.hotjava folder

pls tell me what all is needed to resolve this issue including policy files editing.
i will be highly thankful to u.

If you get error messages, please copy and post them here.
Look in the browser's java console for error messages.
The console is accessed via a browser menu item.

Applets are NOT allowed to wander around on a client's disk. They must be given permission to read/write files out of their base.
Use search for Permission & access denied to see other posts.
