HI all I would like to create an applet that allows a user to browse their local files. When the user selects a directory that contains photos another part of the applet will iterate through each photo and display it as a thumbnail.

Is this completely impractical for an applet. I mean could an average machine cope with an applet displaying say 50 photos as thumbnails?

I need to know if this is practical as if it is not i will then redesign how it will be implemented. i.e. Display a photo when a user selects the individual photo and not the directory that contains photos

Yes, I think it can be done.
Why do it in an applet vs an application?
Applets can be subject to security restrictions.
