Applet contacts originating host through proxy  RSS feed

I have an applet that wants to talk HTTP to the originating server. At least GETs, but preferable POSTs too. I am using Jakarta Commons HttpClient which works excellent in a non-proxy setup. HttpClient allows for the configuration of a proxy. This works well in a stand-alone Swing application, but in my applet I get this fundamental problem:

The proxy is not the originating host, and I am not allowed to make connections to anything but the originating host.

However, I know that it is possible to fetch things like images and sounds by using standard Applet API calls, even through proxies. So apparently the Applet makes an exception to the rule mentioned above for proxies in this matter. I wonder if I can use this possibility to do my own HTTP things, either by using HttpClient or by using something more straightforward like the Applet API.
