am getting this error when trying to run an applet..

java.lang.ClassFormatError: chat (Bad magic number)

looked it up, it says this error occurs when you upload applet in wrong mode (ASCII), but I didn't, I uploaded in binary mode.. had never gotten this error before on this applet, which I have run many times before..

thank you very much..

What version of the JDK did you use to create it? What version of the JRE does the browser use?

It's a version problem. You must have created the applet on higher version of java.. and the JRE , you are using to run the applet is of lower version.

check the version

Try recompiling it (make sure you target it for the JVM version the plugin uses) and re-uploading it. Sometimes files do become corrupt.
