Hi,

Any opinions on wether or not its better to deploy an application via embedding it in an Applet, or using Java Web Start?

Are there any trade offs?

Just looking for opinions.

Thanks,

Applets and Web Start applications are targeted at two different markets. Applets are intended to deliver a subset of rich client functionality. They have security restrictions which prevent them from performing many client side tasks (i.e. printing, reading local files, connecting to foreign servers and so on). One can digitally sign an applet to get around these restrictions, but the applet must still run within a browser. Web Start applications are stand-alone Java applications which share the advantages of an applet (easy distribution and updating) without the need for a browser.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
